34 accidents in the past 5 years call for safer intersection
GREEN CREEK––The intersection of Sandy Plains Road, Landrum Road, and Highway 9 in Green Creek has had 34 car accidents in the past five years. Now, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has made plans to make this intersection safer, hoping to reduce the potential for car accidents.
Division Engineer with the NCDOT, Steve Williams, recently had a discussion with the Polk County Board of Commissioners about the dangers of the intersection.
In the next few weeks, NCDOT plans to add to the intersection rumble strips, replace the current yellow caution lights with flashing red stop lights, add “stop ahead” signs, and convert the intersection to a four-way stop.
