Tryon, NC–Audrey Rhinehart Brown Klatte entered her eternal home on Saturday, November 13th, 2021 at 92. Audrey was born March 15th, 1929 to James Gordon Rhinehart and Charlotte Hazel Shiffmacher Rhinehart and was raised in Woodmere, NY. Audrey and her first husband, Huston “Brownie” Brown, married in 1957 and experienced countless adventures in their 38 years together, some of which included time in Germantown, Ohio at their Mudlick Estate, Dayton, Ohio, and years of wonderful memories in beautiful Tryon, North Carolina.
After Brownie’s passing in 1995, Audrey married Edward Klatte, who had also experienced the loss of his spouse. Audrey and Ed thoroughly enjoyed their time in Tryon, NC attending church functions, participating in the Kiwanis Club, and traveling across the country together in their golden years. One highlight was a trip with fellow WWII veteran Howard Greene to Washington, DC in April 2004 to attend the opening of the National World War II Monument.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Hazel Rhinehart of Valley Stream, Long Island, NY; brother and sister-in-law, George and Joan Rhinehart and niece Kristin Rhinehart of S. Natick, Massachusetts; husband Huston Brown, stepdaughter and dear friend Marianne Brown, husband Edward Klatte, all from Tryon, NC; stepson, Andrew (Peggy) Klatte, brother-in-law, Ralph Graff of Hondo, TX; and her cousin Marion Rhinehart Ertle of Horseshoe, NC. Audrey is survived by her sister, Hazel Graff who resides in Kerrville, TX; stepsons, Neill Klatte of Indiana, Stuart Klatte (Charlene) of Florida, David Klatte of Tryon, NC; nephews, Ken Graff (Laurie), Richard Rhinehart and nieces, Vicki Goebel (Robert), Julie Anderson (Brent), and Dr. Elizabeth Rhinehart.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon, NC with Father Robert Ard officiating.
