High winds Friday destroyed the roof on the new construction
LANDRUM—Strong gusts of wind Friday caused the roof of the new Landrum Farmers Market to collapse.
There were no injuries to anyone as no one was working at the site at the time.
Construction on the new pavilion began earlier this month at the intersection of West Rutherford Street and South Randolph Street.
The new structure will be 15,000 square feet and a peach shed, barn style design, which will be used to provide more space for the existing farmers market.
The new building will feature sliding glass windows with quilt patterns that can be closed during the winter months and during inclement weather.
The new pavilion will be able to accommodate approximately 200 people.
City officials say the anticipated completion of construction of the pavilion is January 2022 with the parking lot to be repaved in March 2022.
The project is estimated at $1.8 million.
