Polk County Senior Services provides over 40,000 meals to seniors each year and they are putting out a desperate call for volunteers to assist with their Meals on Wheels operations.
Gail Dyer, Program Coordinator, said many of their clients are vulnerable and are dependent on the food and safety checks volunteers provide.
As referrals increase, the program is in dire need of volunteers to help deliver meals, especially with the holidays approaching.
“Volunteering is a great way to connect to your community and support those who have supported our community over the years”, said Dyer.
The meals are delivered 5 days a week between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.. Each route ranges from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the center at 828-894-0001.
