Looking for something to watch over the long Thanksgiving weekend? Pick up one of these festive DVDs at the library and settle in at home with a cozy blanket and cup of tea! But before you hunker down for the holiday, come out on Friday, November 19th for a drive-in movie at The Meeting Place in Columbus! This free event is sponsored by Polk County Senior Services and Polk County Public Libraries. Enjoy the 1994 comedy Jingle All the Way (rated PG) at 6pm with free popcorn. Arrive early (5:30pm) to play trivia with the library. A movie prize pack will be awarded to the winning team.
Home for the Holidays
When her teenage daughter opts out of Thanksgiving, single mother Claudia travels alone to her childhood home for an explosive holiday dinner with her dysfunctional family. Claudia quickly tires of her parents, her long-suffering sister, her snobby brother-in-law, and her nutty aunt . But the evening gets interesting when sparks fly between Claudia and her brother’s handsome friend Leo.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
In the perennial favorite starring Steve Martin and John Candy, easily excitable Neal is somewhat of a control freak. Trying to get home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife and kids, his flight is rerouted because of a freak snowstorm, and his sanity begins to fray. Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del, whom he finds extremely annoying. Together they must overcome the insanity of holiday travel to reach their intended destination.
The Oath
When Chris, a high-strung news junkie, and his more level-headed wife learn that citizens are being asked to sign a loyalty oath to the president, their reaction is disbelief. As the Thanksgiving deadline to sign approaches, the combination of sparring relatives, Chris’ own agitation and the unexpected arrival of two government agents sends an already tense holiday gathering completely off the rails.
Turkey Hollow
When the Emmerson family heads to the quaint town of Turkey Hollow to visit their aunt for Thanksgiving, Tim and Annie quickly grow bored and try to track down an elusive monster the locals dismiss as a legend in this family tale from Jim Henson.
Friendsgiving
Abby is looking forward to a laid-back Thanksgiving with her best friend Molly. But the friends’ plans for a quiet turkey dinner go up in smoke when they’re joined by Molly’s new boyfriend and her flamboyant mother. Throw in some party crashers including Molly’s old flame and a wannabe shaman, and it’s a recipe for a comically chaotic holiday no one will ever forget-even if they wanted to.
Free Birds
A hilarious comedy for all ages! Two turkeys must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history and get turkeys off the Thanksgiving menu for good.
