Polk County School nurses get an evening of appreciation

POLK COUNTY—Polk County School nurses got a treat last week from the group Polk County Citizens for Safer Classrooms.

The nurses participated in an evening of appreciation that included treats, a craft and reading of many messages of support and gratitude from Polk County parents.

Becky Collins, owner of Hive Studio, offered her time and space for the evening, which was done on Oct. 28.

Polk County Citizens for Safer Classrooms founder Kelly Hanlon said the group felt that it was important to recognize the unique contributions this nursing group has made to our community.

“During the pandemic, these nurses have been tasked with many extras,” Hanlon said. “From managing student quarantine time to administering testing, these ladies have definitely risen to the occasion and done their part to keep our kids healthy and safe. They are certainly worthy of our entire community’s praise.”

Polk County Citizens for Safer Classrooms was formed this year in an effort to keep masks on students and staff at school. The group has since done other efforts, such as giving gifts to the school nurses. The gift bags given to the county’s 8 school nurses included Starbucks gift cards, fresh apples, a free acupuncture session, a gift card for the paint and craft night and gourmet cookies.

“My sweet nurses had a great time and it was so relaxing,” said Polk County Schools Preschool and Nursing Director Kathy Harding. “We sincerely appreciate your kind words and the evening of down time. We are truly honored to care for our Polk County Schools students, staff and families.”
