Polk County Appearance Commission grants town money for kudzu removal

TRYON—The Town of Tryon recently created a new park after removing kudzu, thanks to a grant from the Polk County Appearance Commission.

Thanks to a Polk County Appearance Commission Beautification grant, the Town of Tryon created a new park near downtown. The town recently cleaned up a ½ acre lot it owned from kudzu and created a picnic area with a garden, gravel parking area, picnic table and a grill for visitors. (Photo submitted by Joe Cooper)

The Appearance Commission granted the town $1,000 to help clear kudzu on a half-acre lot near the center of town on East Howard Street.

The lot has a stream running through it and was vacant and had no beneficial use because of the kudzu.

The town applied for a matching grant for beautification of the property and work began. The town removed the kudzu, planted a pollinator garden along the bank of the stream, a gravel parking area and a picnic area with a picnic table and a grill.

The town will provide maintenance to keep the kudzu eradicated and to support the garden.

People are welcome to visit the new area.
