New group gives gift bags to all school nurses
POLK COUNTY—Polk County School nurses received a treat this week for keeping families safe over the past almost 2 years.
A new group formed recently called Polk County Citizens for Safer Classrooms following the Polk County School Board making masks optional in schools last month. The school board has since reversed that decision and has made masks mandatory at all schools.
Polk County resident and parent Kelly Hanlon began the group that currently has 329 members. The group also started a petition that it sent to the Polk County School Board to promote mandatory masks in schools because of the pandemic.
“We chose the school nurses as the first recipients of our giving back initiative,” Hanlon said. “We plan to choose other deserving groups in the coming months. We know how much they’ve extended themselves over the last 20 months to keep kids and families safe and healthy and we wanted them to feel appreciated.”
The gift bags were given to all of Polk County Schools 8 nurses this week.
The bags contained Starbucks gift cards, fresh apples, a free acupuncture session, a gift card for a paint and craft night and gourmet cookies.
