County reports 92 new cases this week; 19.2 percent positive rate

POLK COUNTY—Polk County’s graph of COVID cases is on an increasing steep rise this week after reporting a high of 92 new cases. 

The Polk County Department of Health and Human Services sent out its weekly COVID-19 update on Friday that includes the county has had 1,881 cases since last March, which is 92 higher than last week. 

The week prior the county had another high of 75 new cases and a 17.3 percent positive rate. 

Polk County added another hospitalization since last week. The county has had 80 people hospitalized from the virus and 33 deaths. 

The percentage of county residents who have been vaccinated remained the same as last week at 40 percent. 

There are 8,978 Polk County residents with at least one dose of the vaccine and 8,363 residents who are fully vaccinated, according to the report. 

Polk County’s positive cases overall have been mostly in people aged 25-49 years old, followed by people 50-64 years old, people 65-74 years old, people 75 and above, people 0-17 and people 18-24 years old. 

Vaccines are free for anyone and are now being administered to everyone age 12 and older in North Carolina.
