Planning board discusses requirements for Food Lion parking lot
COLUMBUS—Construction has begun on a drive-thru Taco Bell in Columbus.
The new Taco Bell is being constructed in the Food Lion complex parking lot on Mills Street.
The Columbus Planning Board has been discussing the new development for a few months.
There is currently a Taco Bell with the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Columbus, but those franchises are parting ways.
Some of the discussions have regarded parking. Columbus Town Manager Tim Barth has said Taco Bell will replace the exact number of parking spaces that exist now.
Planning board member Marshal Watkins has said there has been some discussion about there not being enough parking in the shopping center as is, but the Food Lion shopping center was grandfathered in, so new parking requirements for the town do not apply.
A timeline on when the new Taco Bell will be finished and open is not known.
