Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Baptist Church partner for Aug. 14 event
TRYON—Students in need of school supplies will have an opportunity on Saturday, Aug. 14 to get them for free.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Baptist Church are hosting a back-to-school event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 at the open-air gym at Harmon Field in Tryon.
The sheriff’s office is currently collecting supplies by donation, by filling a sheriff vehicle with the supplies that are being donated.
The sheriff’s office challenged the community to help “stuff” the patrol vehicle with school supplies. People can place donated items in the vehicle from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and monetary donations can be dropped off inside the sheriff’s office in Columbus.
The back-to-school event will include food, drinks, a bouncy house, music and demonstrations by the sheriff’s office K-9 unit. There will also be an identification and fingerprinting station for children.
Donations are still being taken for the event. Items being collected include composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, pencils, paper, pens, erasers, glue sticks, folders, colored pencils, pencil boxes and pouches, rulers, tissue, hand sanitizer, scissors, etc. The sheriff’s office asks that all items be new. To drop off items or money for the fundraiser people can go to the sheriff’s office, located at 164 Government Complex Drive, Columbus.
