Polk approves new water line for $254,093
PEA RIDGE—Pea Ridge will soon have water service from the Green Creek Fire Department substation to Coxe Road.
The Polk County Board of Commissioners met last week and heard from county engineer Dave Odom.
Odom recommended a bid from Piedmont Utility Group, Inc. who plans to do the project in 2 phases. The total bid is for $254,093.
Commissioners decided to pay $135,212 for phase I of the project and another $118,881 for phase 2 of the project.
County manager Marche Pittman said this week that the main purpose is to provide water service to the new fire department substation, located in Pea Ridge for the Green Creek Fire Department. The county decided to extend the line to the intersection of Coxe Road.
The new substation is being built on East Pea Ridge Road.
The new substation will allow the Green Creek Fire Department service area there to have an ISO rating of 6, which can save homeowners 30 percent on their insurance.
Green Creek fire officials also hope the substation will serve as a community outreach tool.
There were no tax increases for the new substation, which is planned to be built in stages.
The substation will be 80 x 80 feet with the fire department agreeing to build it large enough for the county to house an ambulance there in the future.
