Norfolk Southern signage installed at Nina Simone Plaza

TRYON—The Nina Simone Plaza in Tryon now has new signage. 

The Norfolk Southern Corporation recently installed a sign there as a corporate sponsor for the project. 

The Nina Simone Plaza was recently completed with bricks of sponsors. 

The project began 14 years ago and includes a statue of the famed Nina Simone in downtown Tryon. Nina Simone was born and raised in Tryon. She was born as Eunice Waymon and later changed her name to Nina Simone as she gained fame as a jazz musician, pianist and civil rights activist. 

The Nina Simone Plaza is also designated as a Blue Ridge Music Trails site and a Blue Ridge National Heritage Area site.
