The Housing Assistance Corporation is a non-profit organization designed to provide safe and affordable housing for those with limited income.

The program offered to Polk County residents groups 4-6 qualifying families to work together to build homes under the guidance of a contractor, according to Polk County government officials, who released information on the program this week. No construction experience is required to qualify.

For more information or to apply for the program, people can contact Christina Hernandez at 828-692-4744, ext. 104 or by email at Christina@housing-assistance.com

People can earn sweat equity towards their new home by completing 65 percent of the labor. The program offers interest rates below the market rate; payment is based on income and adjusted annually; there is no down payment required; most closing costs can be financed into the loan; interest rates and mortgage payments are deferred during construction and the borrower’s requirement of making monthly payments is suspended for up to 2 years.
