COLUMBUS — Ralph “Buddy” Pasco Douglas passed from this life to his heavenly home on Friday, February 26, 2021 in Landrum, SC.
Ralph was born in Manatee County, FL, the son of Clarence Washington Douglas and Georgia Blackburn Douglas on January 8, 1932. He was retired from the United States Air Force, GE, and the State of South Carolina. Ralph was a member of the Midway Baptist Church in Columbus NC.
Ralph was very creative. He had a love for woodworking, gardening, and interior decorating. After his retirement he loved to take his woodworking to the craft shows exhibiting the bookends, pencil holders, and other items he had crafted and decorated. He created beautiful landscapes that would often win awards and decorated the homes he lived in.
A few years ago, he decided to work part time at Tryon Elementary. He loved working with the younger children. One day a student invited him to visit his church which was Midway Baptist. There he found a church family that filled the emptiness he had.
Ralph is survived by his spouse, Waunda Douglas, three sons, Ralph Jr. (Marianne) of Grand Junction, CO, Rick (Sandy) of Greenville, SC, and Rob, of Carrollton, GA; one daughter, Patti (John), of Carrollton, GA. Ralph was blessed with sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:45 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Midway Baptist Church, Columbus, NC with Rev. Peter McDonald officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midway Baptist Church, Post Office Box 679, Columbus, NC 28722 in Ralph’s name.
