MILL SPRING – William “Bill” Garland Smith, 80, of Mill Spring went to be with our Lord, Monday morning, February 22, 2021 at his home.
Born in Tappan, NY, he was the son of the late William Garland Smith and Mathilda Funk Smith. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Syracuse University earning his bachelor’s in civil engineering and Delaware University earning his master’s degree in Civil Engineering. He owned and operated Subsurface Engineering in Charlotte for 20 years. Mr. Smith and his wife Barbara moved to Mill Spring in 1998. After retirement, he enjoyed blacksmithing, geology and carpentry. He was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife and high school sweetheart of 56 years, Barbara Herguth Smith; one daughter, Nancy Lynn Parks of Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren, Colin and twin sisters, Katie Parks and Sarah Parks.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Robert Hefner and Dr. Chris Osborn officiating.
