TRYON — On Sunday January 12, 2021 our community lost Tryon resident Hilary Giner-Sorolla.  Hilary passed away at Spartanburg Regional Hospital from multiple organ failure following surgery, at the age of 90.

Hilary grew up in Nunthorpe, Yorkshire, England, with her brother Andrew and sister Frances.  During the Blitz of the Second World War, the children were evacuated to the English countryside.  She married Alfredo Giner-Sorolla, a Valencian pharmacology researcher, in 1962, and the young couple moved to New York City and then Greenwich, Connecticut to start a family.  Her son Roger was born in 1966.  She later worked in the shipping industry.  In retirement Hilary was an active screenwriter and published author.  She was a core member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon, writing articles for the church newsletter and at one time serving as president of their Daughters of the King chapter for religious service.

She is survived by her son Roger Giner-Sorolla, her daughter in law Rea Giner-Sorolla, her sister Frances MacLennan, her niece Caroline Wright and her nephew John MacLennan.

Her memorial service will be private.

Her wishes were that donations in lieu of flowers be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church or to the Polk County Red Cross.
