COLUMBUS – Mark Douglass Overton, 60, a resident of Columbus, NC, passed into eternal life on Sunday, January 17, 2021 in his home. 

 

Mark was born in Knoxville, TN to David Ayward Overton and Elizabeth Ingle Overton.  He was raised in Barrington, IL.  He married Margaret M. Bell in 1989.

Mark was a devoted husband and father.  He loved watching classic movies with his family, and had a remarkable memory for historical facts and details.  He worked in telecommunications for over 30 years.  He loved all things mechanical, and enjoyed tinkering with them.  He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for 20+ years, and he was a Knight of Columbus.  He loved volunteering for charitable works and was active in pro-life activities.

 

Mark is survived by his wife of 31 years, Maggie; his five children: Matthew James (Heather) of Campobello, SC; Eric Michael (Jessie) of Kailua, HI; Robert Douglass, John David, and Mary Bernadette of Columbus, NC.  He is also survived by two brothers.  He is pre-deceased by his mother, father, and a sister (Ann). 

 

A private funeral will be held at ST. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, NC officiated by Fr. Jason Christian, with a private burial at Polk Memorial Gardens.
