LYNN – On June 25, 2020, Martha Thompson Wilson (102) of Lynn, NC passed away at her home. Born on April 8, 1918, she was the oldest of seven children born to Thomas Malachi “Mallie” Thompson and Mamie Ellen Conner and was the oldest remaining “old timer” of the Lynn Community. She was pre-deceased by her husband James William “Bill” Wilson who died in 2013, and by her siblings: Bonnie Wilson, Faye Hooker, Bertha Wilson, Betty Jones, Mallie “Gene” Thompson, and Ruth Hall. She is survived by her daughter Emma Jean (Sue), numerous nieces and nephews, and many others who called her mama or grandma.
Martha was employed during the 40’s & 50’s at Adams-Millis Corporation in Tryon. Later, she became a home looper operator for Roy Panther and Company in Lynn. She loved flowers, enjoyed gardening and canning, and until her sight failed, she excelled at crocheting and cooking. Most of her crocheted creations were gifted to other people, and the goodness of her chicken and dumplings is still talked about today..
She was a member of Pacolet Baptist Church in Lynn where she served as a teacher and song leader. There will be a celebration of her life at the church Sunday, July 12, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.
