Tryon has 2 streets closed from sinkholes
TRYON—Recent heavy rains have caused 2 sinkholes in Tryon.
Carolina Drive next to the IGA is currently closed from a large sinkhole and Chestnut Street is also closed.
Both the sink holes occurred last week with both sink holes being directly off Trade Street (U.S. 176).
The town is working to get the holes repaired.
Detours are in place for residents that live on Carolina Drive and Chestnut Street.
There has been 3.83 inches of rain during the month of June, according to the National Weather Service. The normal for June is 4.13 inches.
The month of May was well above average in terms of rainfall. Tryon received 11.36 inches of rain, according to the NWS. The normal for May is 4.57 inches of rain.
On May 19, Tryon received 5.85 inches of rain, which was the most in the month in 1 day.
On May 20, the area received 2.32 inches of rain, according to the NWS.
The most rain received in June in 1 day occurred on June 10 when Tryon received 1.02 inches of rain, according to the NWS.
