Student’s vision coming to fruition at Harmon Field
TRYON—A vision from a Polk County Early College student is coming to fruition this month.
The new flooring has been installed at the open-air gymnasium at Harmon Field and new goals are being installed.
The flooring was installed by iTennis360 recently.
Mason Lassiter, who was a 17-year old junior at the early college had a vision to restore the open-air gym, which had fallen in disrepair over the years. He played basketball there since he was young and began fundraising for the renovation to be his senior project.
During his fundraising, Lassiter passed away, so his family and friends decided to continue the project.
Lassiter had raised almost $11,000 before his death.
Volunteers for the project are still needed as well as fundraising.
Lassiter wanted to resurface the floor, replace the goals, add benches, a trash can, a water fountain and have a mural painted.
Renovations began this summer.
