LabCorp offers free tests
POLK COUNTY—Polk County residents who think they may have the coronavirus can now order a test kit from home.
The tests are being offered through LabCorp, who will send the nasal swab test kit to a person’s home at no cost.
People will be asked to collect their own nasal swab and ship it back to the lab. The lab will then test the sample for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
The tests are being offered with no upfront cost. LabCorp will file a person’s insurance or use federal funding to cover the upfront costs on the patient’s behalf.
The at-home testing does not detect antibodies or immunity. The tests are designed to determine if an active infection of the virus is present.
