Tryon Historical Museum presents its 2020 season of speaker engagements, starting Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m.

Back by popular demand, Dr. Joseph Fox explores the cultural norms that fostered the growth of Black-owned businesses on the Eastside of Tryon. The discussion focuses on the inability of persons of color to own businesses in the past on most Main Streets throughout the United States and how the environment created a climate for entrepreneurship in Black communities, especially in the South. Discussion also focuses on the move to integrate Main Street America, and some of the negative consequences that grew out of the movement. A number of Black-owned businesses will be discussed, as well as how these early businesses became the foundation for current Black-owned businesses in Tryon.

Dr. Fox, a native of Tryon, is the owner of Fox Management Consulting Enterprises, LLC. Fox Management specializes in a variety of organizational training for management and employees. He is a former Department Chairperson, Business Administration, at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, and possesses an Ed.D. and an M.B.A. from Western Carolina University and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Pfeiffer University.

Dr. Fox also possesses the Professional in Human Resources Management (PHR) National Certification, Global Achieve Leadership Training Certification and the Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning (REAL) Certification.He retired from the NC Community College System after serving as an educator for 24 years and is currently a sought after speaker on diverse topics such as diversity/inclusion, strategic planning, business development and community healing.
