Julia Booker Miller, 79, of Tryon, NC passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at her home.
Born in Lynn, NC, she was the daughter of the late Boyce Jason Booker, Sr. and late Jewel J. Booker Green of Tryon, NC. She was a graduate of Reynolds High School (Canton, NC), earned a BA degree from NC Central University (Durham, NC) and a master’s degree from Rutgers University (Newark, NJ). Julia went on to teach in the New Jersey public charter school systems and became a well-known contemporary artist. One of her paintings currently remains as park of a permanent collection at the New Jersey Museum of Modern Art. She retired from teaching in New Jersey after 38 years and retuned to North Carolina to live.
Julia is survived by a son, Charles Douglas Miller, Jr.; grandsons Charles Miller III and Jason Miller, a granddaughter Janae Bunn all of whome reside in New Jersey; sisters Joan B. Sheppard (Tryon), Jane A. Booker (Newark, NJ) and Janice Booker Wyatt(Henry)(Washington, DC); and brothers Dr. Jackie R. Booker, Sr. (Columbia, SC) and Dr. James R. Booker (Flat Rock, NC); goddaughter Carolyn McInstosh (Ben Haynes) (Asheville, NC) and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and cousins.
In leu of flowers, the family is requesting that all donations be made to Good Shepard Episcopal Church, 814 Markham Road, Tryon, NC 28782, in memory of Julia B. Miller.
Funeral services will be held at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church (Tryon) on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00 A.M followed by interment at Good Shepard Cemetery (Tryon)
