TRYON – John David Murdock, 74, of Tryon passed away, Saturday evening, February 22, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late David A. Murdock and Lyda Metcalf Murdock. Mr. Murdock retired from Norfolk Southern in 1997 after 20 years of service. He loved the great outdoors, gardening, fishing, Atlanta Braves baseball and traveling. Mr. Murdock was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Louise Murdock in 1969.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Louise Stamey Murdock; two daughters, Carol Walker (Terry) of Landrum and Stephanie Murdock of Campobello; two sisters, Sandra Greene of Sunnyview and Judy Harris of Mill Spring. Also surviving are two grandchildren, which were the light of his life, Samantha Walker and Gray Murdock.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, February 25, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2020 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Reverend Henry Vegter officiating.
Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
