TRYON – Edward Woodrow Jackson, 86, of Tryon went home to be with the Lord Monday afternoon, February 17, 2020 after a period of declining health under the special care of the VA Administration and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

 

Mr. Jackson was born February 6, 1934 to the late Woodrow Russell Jackson and Marjorie Moore Jackson Loftis. After serving in the U.S. Army, he went on to work for and retired from NAPA Auto Parts in Tryon. He was known to go back to the store during closed hours to get parts for those who needed them. During that time, he worked as a night watchman at the Cotton Patch Farm when Willis E. Kuhn was owner during the early 70’s and worked as a jailer at night and on the weekends under Sheriff Boyce Carswell. Mr. Jackson was a member of Tryon Second Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Patsy Gibbs.

 

 Surviving is his loving wife of 26 years, Rosa Brown Jackson; two sons, Eddie Jackson (Crystal) of Green Creek and John Jackson of Asheville; two daughters, Ann Kuykendall (Thurman) of Tryon and Barbara Miller (James) of Campobello; two step-sons, Steve Estes (Ricci Linn) of Jackson, GA and Charles Estes (Amy) of Thomasville; one step-grandchild and one step great-grandchild.

 

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with Dr. Dennis Jones and Reverend John Williams officiating.

 

The family will receive friends prior to the service Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

 

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
