The Speaker of the North Carolina House named Rep. Jake Johnson (R-113) to three major joint oversight committees in the legislature. Johnson, who assumed office back in August of 2019, appears to be taking a major role in policy development and oversight during his time in Raleigh. The Speaker sent a letter to Rep. Johnson last week stating that he would be asked to serve on the following oversight committees:
- Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources
- Transportation
- Information Technology
Johnson says he thinks this is great news for his district which includes Polk County. He believes that having a strong voice from western North Carolina on these prominent committees in Raleigh will be a huge benefit to not only our area, but the state as a whole.
Johnson also serves on the following standing committees in the General Assembly: Finance, K-12 Education, Regulatory Reform, Veterans Affairs/Homeland Security and Wildlife Resources.
“Thank you [Rep. Johnson] for your willingness to serve in this capacity. I am confident you will have much to offer these joint legislative committees and will be effective and diligent in your service to our state”- NC House Speaker, Tim Moore
“I am humbled and honored to serve on these joint oversight committees. It is an opportunity for me to have a positive impact on my district and our great state. I want to thank leadership for their confidence in me. I will use this opportunity to expand economic opportunity and improve our infrastructure in a way that is respectful of the taxpayer’s money.” – Rep. Jake Johnson
