Mill Spring , NC—David Lee Phillips, 79, of Mill Spring, NC passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Spartanburg Medical Center.
David was born in Polk County, NC to the late Clyde Lupton and Catherine Carswell Phillips. David entered the US Navy in October of 1957 and served as Chief Machinist Mate until his retirement in September of 1978. After retirement from the US Navy, David worked as the superintendent for ITT Henze in Tacoma, Washington. It was in Tacoma that he met the love of his life Terri, and together they moved back to Pea Ridge, NC. Once moving back to the Pea Ridge area, David worked for Auto Zone and McCurry-Deck until his final retirement. David was a very devoted family man who loved his wife and children. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes and was talented at auto body restoration.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard Shelby.
David leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Terri Todd Phillips; two daughters, Rhonda Lynn Phillips and Tina Susette Shelby; one granddaughter, Jacquelyn Saucier (George); and two great grandchildren Olivia Saucier and Sophia Saucier; two step-sons, Troy Ritter and Randy Ritter; two brothers, Lanny Phillips and Roger Phillips (Sue); and two sisters, Mildred Edwards (Ken) and Linda Covil. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pea Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, 8732 HWY 108 E., Mill Spring, NC 28756 officiated by Reverend John T. Edwards with military rites conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
