Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

On Sunday, December 8, Conserving Carolina will be hosting a Holiday Brunch in Tryon. An annual, ticketed event, the Holiday Brunch is a holiday benefit, featuring a delicious meal, local beer donated by Brevard Brewing and Oskar Blues and wine donated by Tryon Distributing. This year, the event will also feature a donation based Holiday Market and will be held at the historic Mills-Screven Plantation.

Built in 1830 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Screven Plantation is situated on a hill overlooking the beautiful Pacolet River Valley, the old Howard Gap wagon road, and Little Creek. Originally called “Hilltop” by Govan Mills, Screven Plantation was built on several thousand acres of surrounding land given to the Mills family by King George III. The Screven family owned the home for nearly 75 years, which is how it came to bear its current name. Screven Plantation and the 29-acre property it sits on is currently the home of Jeff and Sherry Carter. The entire property is protected forever with a permanent conservation easement held by Conserving Carolina.

With its rich history and beautiful, conserved land, Screven Plantation is a perfect location for the Holiday Brunch, an event that benefits Conserving Carolina while ushering in the holiday season. Without partners and all of their support, this work would not be possible. An extra special thanks is extended to Jeff and Sherry Carter for hosting the 2019 Holiday Brunch at their magnificent home on their amazing, protected land.
