Landrum to host Upper State Championship
LANDRUM—On Saturday May 4, the Landrum baseball team traveled to Kershaw, South Carolina to take on the Andrew Jackson High School Volunteers in the second round of the Upper State playoffs. The Cardinals went into the game boasting an impressive 24-2 record in contrast to Andrew Jackson’s record of 16-11.
The Cardinals advanced through the winners bracket in the second round of the playoffs, giving them the statistical advantage over the Volunteers. The Cardinals went into the game unbeaten on the road and continued that fine form by downing the Volunteers 3-1 over the weekend. The Cardinals season continues to thrive thanks to a solid team performance and great individual efforts from the pitchers mound.
The Cardinals record of 25-2 gives them a 92.6% win ratio for the season. The Cardinals victory on Saturday means that they continued to be unbeaten on the road, winning all ten of their away games this season. The two losses came at home, the first early in the season against Greer Middle College and the second was suffered during the double elimination playoff series against Fox Creek High School.
The Cardinals have an incredible runs scored and runs allowed differential this season. The Cardinals have scored a total of 228 runs while only allowing 52. That statistic shows that while the Cardinals are scoring at a phenomenal rate, they are also playing solid defense when they take the field.
The Cardinals are now ranked as the number one team in the South Carolina AA division, as well as being ranked 24th overall in the state across all divisions. The Cardinals will host the Upper State Championship on Wednesday May 8, at 5:00 p.m. weather permitting.
