NC HOUSE BILL 294

To the editor:
Today I learned of a proposed legislative bill in the NC General Assembly known as House Bill 294. Essentially this proposed law will turn most county boards such as the Board of Education, Soil & Water District Boards and others into partisan elected boards. There is even a provision on town and city elections that I do not fully comprehend.
What is the intent in changing these elections from non-partisan to partisan? I struggle with understanding what is to be gained with such a change. It appears to me that the partisan nature of our elected bodies in both Raleigh and Washington barely manage getting anything accomplished for the good of our citizens. Do we want that problem to become even more commonplace?
I am opposed to this bill and have already written our house representative Cody Henson and asked him to vote against this House Bill 294. I am hopeful you will join me in expressing similar concerns to Rep Henson.
