SAM A. SUMMEY

TRYON – Samuel Arthur Summey, 97, of Tryon passed away, Thursday morning, February 21, 2019 at White Oak Manor of Charlotte.
Born in Alexander Mills, NC, he was the son of the late Stanhope Anthony Summey and Ada Elizabeth Hawkins Summey and husband of the late Irene Lenore Parenteau Summey who passed away in 2008. Mr. Summey was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. After the war, he moved to Tryon and opened the Western Auto. He later went to work and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service. During that time, he owned and operated Sam’s in Tryon. He was a member of Tryon United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Whatley (Danny) of Hendersonville, Linda Vaughan (Charles) of Greenville and Sheri Conrad of Charlotte. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 in Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Lynnette Sills officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tryon United Methodist Church, 195 New Market Road, Tryon, NC 28782.
