Polk County Schools and Polk County Community Foundation are working together on a new program to offer volunteer mentor opportunities to students in the district.

Thanks to generous support from PCCF, Polk County’s After School PEAK program is building a new volunteer mentor program, SUMMIT. The program will help provide weekly opportunities for students to serve as mentors to participants in the PEAK program.

“We are so encouraged PCCF has recognized the value of community volunteers giving of their time and talents to build relationships with our students,” said Polk County PEAK Director Linley Foster.

Students interested in joining the SUMMIT Volunteer Mentor Program should visit Polk County Schools website and submit a volunteer application. Once approved, volunteers will be contacted to arrange a time best for their schedule to be introduced to their school PEAK Director and students.

Volunteers will be encouraged to provide one hour a week of mentoring, Monday – Thursday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

“The PCCF grant will enable us to provide volunteer resources, training, enrichment activities and community bonding experiences for our students,” said Ronnette Dill, Director of Curriculum for Polk County Schools.
