Opening flurry helps spur Polk girls basketball team to easy win at Cherryville

Polk County raced to a 19-0 lead at the end of the first period and went on to record a 64-21 win Thursday in girls basketball action at Cherryville.

The Wolverines improved to 5-3 ahead of Friday’s Western Highlands Conference opener at Owen. Cherryville dropped to 4-8.

Marissa Twitty had 14 points to lead Polk County, with Olivia Overholt scoring 12 and Tori Thompson adding 11 points and five assists.

Mariah Overholt and Sara Muse each scored nine points, with Emmie McDowell adding eight points and eight steals.

Ansley Lynch had four points, with Makayla Staley, Rachael Davis and Kristen Hall each scoring two. Hall also grabbed eight rebounds.
