Tryon commissioners approve purchase of new trash truck
TRYON — A new trash truck will soon be serving the sanitation needs of Tryon residents.
The town of Tryon Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a new turnkey rear load refuse truck from Nu-Life Environmental Inc. during the board’s meeting Tuesday evening at Tryon Town Hall. The town will pay the vendor — based out of Easley, South Carolina — a total of $138,698 for the garbage truck, which the manufacturer estimates should be ready in five weeks or less.
The new trash vehicle will be comprised of a Wayne/Curbtender Fury rear loader and a 2019 Freightliner M2 106 chassis.
Nu-Life was one of several vendors to respond to the town’s request for proposal for a new 20-cubic-feet rear trash loader vehicle. Other bidders included Greensboro-based White’s International Trucks, which submitted a bid of $134,506, with the vehicle expected to arrive in around 270 days; and Greenville-based Carolina Environmental Systems Inc., which submitted a bid of $152,552, with a lead time of 60 to 90 days.
Although Nu-Life Environmental was not the lowest bid that came in, Town Manager Zach Ollis recommended that the commissioners go with the company’s proposal.
“While it’s one of the lowest [prices], it’s also the one that comes in five weeks or less, which is very convenient for us, given our issues with our current sanitation vehicles,” Ollis said.
