Relative in custody in Tennessee

MILL SPRING—A Mill Spring woman was found dead this morning in an apparent homicide.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was found dead early Wednesday morning off Highway 9 in Mill spring.

Sheriff Donald Hill said deputies were called to the home to do a welfare check and found the woman.

The suspect, a family member, has been arrested in Tennessee.

The home is near Polk Central Middle School.

Hill said the case has been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation because of the recent election. Hill is leaving office in a few weeks.
