Sisters in Crime’s Upstate South Carolina chapter has announced that Landrum Middle School Library has been awarded the organization’s “We Love Libraries” $1,000 grant to buy books or audiobooks for its collection.
The grant check was presented to librarian Angela Moore, on Oct. 24 at Landrum Middle School.
“We are thrilled to be awarded the ‘We Love Libraries’ grant, which will be used to add to our mystery and suspense collections. These collections are very popular and especially appeal to our more reluctant readers,” Moore said.
“Landrum Middle School is honored to receive the Sisters in Crime’s ‘We Love Libraries’ $1,000 grant,” said Tucker Hamrick, principal of Landrum Middle School. “As an educational institution, we firmly believe that reading is the key to learning. Through this grant, we will be able to foster reading in more students that will, in turn, create lifelong learners.”
Sally Handley, president of the Upstate South Carolina Sisters in Crime chapter, presented the grant award at the event. Handley is author of the “Holly and Ivy” cozy mystery series. She also writes a blog titled “On Writing, Reading and Retirement” on her website, sallyhandley.com.
“Having been a middle school teacher, I was delighted to make this presentation,” she said. “Libraries like this one have the power to ignite lifelong reading habits in our children. Sisters in Crime is pleased to be part of that effort.”
Sisters in Crime is dedicated to promoting the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers. Members are authors, readers, publishers, agents, booksellers and librarians bound by a passion for the mystery genre.
