Polk County runner cracks top five at Tennessee meet; freshman leads Wolverine girls

Polk County senior Caleb Potter tuned up for Wednesday’s Western Highlands Conference meet with a fourth-place showing Saturday at the Trailblazer Invitational in Gray, Tennessee.

Potter completed the course in a time of 17.08.40, actually clocking the same time as the third-place finisher. Porter Bradley of University School of Johnson City won the race with a time of 16:47.10.

The Polk boys finished 13th in the 18-team field. Also cracking the 20-minute mark was freshman Mark Teague, who placed 60th with a time of 19:30.40. Other Wolverines competing included:

Polk County freshman Olivia Overholt led the Wolverine girls with a 32nd-place finish in a time of 22:03.30. Teammates Caelan Gaul and Taytem Johnson each cracked the top 60, with Gaul at 54th in 23:59.40 and Johnson in 55th at 24:05.00.

Also competing for the Wolverines, who placed 8th in the 13-team field, were:

• Amelia Nespeca, 25:39.60

• Lauren Dotson, 25:44.70

• Madison Geddings, 26:19.80

• Izzy Jackson, 26:56.10

Both Polk County teams will compete in Wednesday’s WHC meet at Asheville Christian Academy.
