Editor’s Note: The Polk County Board of Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. The meeting is held in the R. Jay Foster Hall of Justice, located on the second floor of the Womack building in Columbus.

1. Call to Order of the Public Hearing to Discuss the County Submitting a 2018 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) Application to the NC Department of Commerce – Chairman Johnson. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive citizen input, allowing residents the opportunity to comment on the consideration of submitting an application for $750,000 through the Division of Rural Economic Development (REDD) program that will assist a selected number of income qualified and criteria eligible renters with housing, infrastructure development, and sidewalk extensions.  The grant would also be used for land acquisition for apartments units, a low-income daycare facility, a community building, and for a future affordable housing projects.  The public hearing was properly advertised in the Tryon Daily Bulletin. Information is included in the agenda packet under Item #. Joshua Kennedy, Consolidated Human Services Agency (CHSA) Director will be present.

12. Home and Community Block Grant Increase – Joshua Kennedy, CHSA Director will discuss increasing a part-time position to full-time with a grant increase. The position will revert back to part-time at end of fiscal year.  Budget Amendment to appropriate additional funds needed in excess of grant.

13. Military Suicide Awareness Month Resolution – Joyce B. Preston, Polk County Memorial Auxiliary to VFW Post #9116 will present the resolution.

14. Resolution in Remembrance of September 11, 2001 – Joyce B. Preston, Polk County Memorial Auxiliary to VFW Post #9116 will present the resolution.

15. Proclamation for Prisoners of War (POW) and Missing In Action (MIA) Recognition Day September 21, 2018– Joyce B. Preston, Polk County Memorial Auxiliary to VFW Post #9116 will present the proclamation.

16. Election & Campaign Sign Laws Update – Cliff Marr, Elections Director will present the information.

17. North Carolina Association of County Commissioner Conference – Commissioners and County Manager will discuss the conference.

18. World Equestrian Games Endurance Trail and Piroplasmosis Update – Discussion.
