WNC Diamond Outlaws make softball tournament debut

The debut meant just as much as the performance Saturday for the WNC Diamond Outlaws.
The Polk County-based travel softball squad participated in its first tournament, competing in the Top Gun-USA One Day Super Saver event at Etowah Park. Facing established competition from throughout the region, the 12U Outlaws played well but dropped all three matches.
“We are very proud of our girls for their effort and play,” said Outlaws head coach Michael Charlton. “We are very inexperienced with tournament play but we were able to get good game experience to build on with our team.”
Charlton and assistant coach Kelly Wiggen said the group is looking for more players, especially in Polk County.
“At this point, things are going really well,” Charlton said. “The team has grown tremendously in skill development and knowledge of the game. We will continue to grow and get better each practice and tournament we play.”
Any girl interested in joining the team, which practices at Polk County Recreation Complex, can contact the group through its Facebook page or via email at wncdiamondoutlaws@gmail.com.
