PEAK after school program available at no cost to students

Polk County Schools announces that funding provided by Polk County Local Government will enable the district to serve a significant number of students in this year’s PEAK after school program at no cost to families.
The program is available for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. After school programming for pre-kindergarten students is available upon request at a cost of $40 per week.
Due to lower student participation last year and a limited number of qualified applicants this year, Polk County Schools is experiencing a shortage of leaders at the current time. The safety and supervision of students is important and the district works to maintain low ratios in each school’s program for this reason.
As a result, schools will begin this year’s PEAK program with a limited number of student slots. Polk County Schools are currently accepting applications and working to prioritize, place and serve students as soon as possible.
Applications are accessible online at the Polk County Schools homepage, polkschoools.org. Each school site application has its own link. Paper applications can be picked up at all elementary schools and Polk Middle. If you are interested in having your student participate in PEAK this year Polk County Schools asks that you fill out an online application or complete and return a paper application.
The PEAK staff will contact you to let you know when your student may begin staying for after school.
Contact Linley Foster at lfoster@polkschools.org or 828-894-3051 with any questions.
Polk County Schools is also taking applications for PEAK leaders to work with students in the program. Those interested can apply online at polkschools.org/employment.
Applicants are subject to a background check and should provide references.
