Free gospel music to take place at Columbus’ Stearns Park
COLUMBUS — Local residents are invited to attend free events every Saturday night through September at Stearns Park.
The Discover Columbus Committee is organizing Music in the Park, which will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the park in downtown Columbus. The concerts begin Saturday and will continue every Saturday night through Sept. 29.
Discover Columbus member Melanie Jennings said the concerts are free to the public. She said people are asked to bring folding chairs to sit and enjoy the music, which will be performed in the Stearns Park gazebo.
“We’ve got some wonderful groups, and all these groups have agreed to come out at no cost,” Jennings said.
Saturday night’s concert will feature Jesse T & David Wallace.
Next week’s concert will feature the Atkins Family, followed by Joyful Noise on Sept. 1; Colt Creek Bluegrass on Sept. 8; 3Deemed on Sept. 15; Chosen on Sept. 22; and Turning Point on Sept. 29.
Jennings recently told county commissioners when announcing Music in the Park that Columbus is not all about horses.
“This town is not only about horses,” Jennings said. “There’s a lot of good people in this town that love the quiet living, that love the place we live in and the beauty. We love music.”
All are welcome to the free concerts.
