Col. Eric Swartz, a retired U.S. Army officer with 30 years of active service, was the guest speaker at the July 26 meeting of the Rotary Club of Tryon. His presentation, “Where Do We Find These Men,” detailed the bravery and exemplary service of soldiers who served with him in the war in Iraq. In addition, he shared with the Rotarians that enlistment in today’s all-volunteer Army is highly competitive, in that education and civilian skills are very important in the selection process.
