Come and sit a spell

Harriet Peoples takes a seat in the first chair made in Tryon by a company since probably the 1950s or earlier. Standing behind her are Tryon Mayor Alan Peoples (left) and Brandt Davis. Brandt is the builder and business owner of Saluda Rustics. Peoples requested that he be able to purchase the first chair made at the shop, and to have Brandt sign it. The seat is a fine example of a hickory chair, and looks and feels amazingly like the original Old Hickory chairs of the earlier half of last century, Peoples said. (Submitted by Alan Peoples)
