The Columbus Fire Department welcomed the community as they held their “Push In” ceremony Sunday for the new “Ladder 22” fire engine.

According to Columbus Fire Department Chief Tony Priester, the origin of the ceremony comes from back in the days of early hand-drawn or horse-drawn fire engines and ladder wagons. Then, the equipment had to be hand-pushed back into the fire station.

This tradition continues today as a way of honoring former members and as a display of unity. Priester thanked everyone for their support and prayers, saying they could not do what they do every day without God’s help.

After enjoying hot dogs and drinks, the ladder truck was driven around to the front of the station and backed into the bay, with the help of those who desired to join in “pushing” Ladder 22.
