Clara Biswas, a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, will share stories of children living on the streets of Cambodia with the Tryon United Methodist Church next month.
Biswas will speak at Tryon United Methodist Church on at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 5, and again on at the 8:30 to 11 a.m. worship services on Sunday, July 8. The church is located at 195 New Market Road, Tryon.
Biswas, a native of Bangladesh, brings the love of Jesus Christ to over 300 children, whose lives are much different than those living in the U.S., representatives said.
Biswas started a program to help the street children in Cambodia, including those living in orphanages and in poor communities, who have limited access to education, proper nutrition, fellowship activities or opportunities to learn about the Bible and the love of Jesus Christ.
Biswas’ Street Children Ministry has a mission to provide a better quality of life by creating educational opportunities through classes, field trips, scholarships and vocational job training. She also helps with nutritional needs, and provides fellowship activities.
Biswas worked as a missionary and social worker in Bangladesh and Japan before starting her Street Children Ministry.
Tryon United Methodist Church, along with many other churches, is in a covenant relationship with her, and provides financial support for her salary, housing and food. Those interested can learn more and provide donations to the project at Biswas’ presentations at Tryon United Methodist Church next month.
