Scott Camp

Henry Scott Camp, 88, of Columbus, NC passed away, Friday afternoon, June 8, 2018 at Autumn Care of Saluda.

Born in Norwich, CT, he was the son of the late Frederick Camp and Imogene Ridgley Camp and husband of the late Ann Smith Camp who passed away December of 2017.  Mr. Camp was a graduated from Proctor Academy located in New Hampshire, was an US Ski Contestant for the Olympics’ Winter Games in his early years, attended University of Miami, Cub-Scout and Boy Scout Leader, a veteran of the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines. He was a member of Columbus Baptist Church.

He was one of the founders of the Polk County Memorial VFW Post #9116, The VFW Polk County Honor Guards (along with Fred Earl Foster and then Henry Huntsinger – Honor Guards) the Veterans’ Brick Memorial, and the House of Flags.

Surviving are two sons., E. Johnny Butler (Sabrina) of Timmonsville, SC and Elliott “Bud” Butler of Columbus, NC; one daughter, Joyce Preston (David) of Tryon, NC; one sister, Anne St. John of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Lee Butler, Stephanie Brunk, Angie Bennett (Rob), John Butler and Scott Preston (Ashley); five great-grandchildren, Haley, Sean, Alex, David Scott and J.R.; six step-grandchildren, Will Bryce, Kevin Tanner, Bobby Tanner, David Preston (Kim), Lisa Clark (Rick) and Jim Preston (Carmen); one step-great-grandchild, Mila.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Dr. Jesse T. Yarbrough officiating.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC with military rites conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and Masonic Rites conducted by the Polk Unity Masonic Lodge.

The family will receive friends prior to the service Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
