Mother’s Day brought out some pretty warm temperatures for the May 13 Foothills Equestrian Nature Center Hunter Pace, and it appeared everyone had the same idea and showed up early.
There was a grand total of 105 riders, who included the Field Hunters, Trail Riders, and the Mini-Pace or Short Trail riders. Timer Joey Cabaniss was on site to send riders and their mounts on their merry way.
In the Field Hunter Division there were 67 riders in 36 teams. The Optimum Time for this division was one hour, 29 minutes, which, as usual given their beautiful cross-country course, included 10 minutes of “play time.”
The results were as follows:
First place honors were awarded to Jacqueline Wacniewski from Campobello with the time of a flat one hour, 28 minutes.
Two teams tied for second place with the time of one hour, 30 minutes, 21 seconds. Debbie Croft from Anderson and Rebecca Tolson from Pendleton, who were solo riders, claimed that spot.
Fourth place was awarded to the duo of Gena Meredith from Landrum and Cynthia Milligan from Columbus with a time of one hour, 31 minutes, three seconds.
The fifth-place ribbon was awarded to the quartet of Katherine Dilworth from Alexander, Francesca Hattaway from Candler, Megan McCoy and Chelsea Troutman from Weaverville. Their time was one hour, 31 minutes, 42 seconds.
Rounding out the placements for sixth place in the Field Hunter Division was the team of Amy Christensen from Landrum and Rich Putnam from Tryon with the time of one hour, 32 minutes, 11 seconds.
There were 28 riders in 17 teams in the Trail Rider Division. The Calculated Optimum time was two hours, five minutes, 48 seconds.
First-place honors were awarded to the team of Lenore Threlkeld from Henderson and Leslie Threlkeld from Brevard with the time of two hours, five minutes, 52 seconds. They were a mere four seconds off of the Calculated Optimum Time.
Bobby Turner from Spartanburg was a close second place with a time of two hours, six minutes, 10 seconds.
There was a tie for third place, as Valaria DeVine from Tryon and Arlene Lulavage from Columbus had the time of two hours, six minutes, 10 seconds.
Fifth place was awarded to Jennifer Wilson from Mill Spring with the time of two hours, seven minutes flat. Rounding out the placements in the Trail Rider Division for sixth place was to duo of Laura Hendley from Columbus and Jennifer Smith from Simpsonville with the time of two hours, eight minutes, five seconds.
In the Mini-Pace Division the riders were: David & Jeanne Ahreholz, Vicki Beilharz, Baiba Bourbeau, Barrie Coffin, Joleen and Tom Eizember, Beatrice Lamb and Anne and Richard Pierce. Though this division is not an official division yet, it still gives the opportunity for riders who are new to the Pace Events, older or younger riders or younger or older horses who can enjoy a slower, more relaxed trail ride.
The final Hunter Pace will be the Scotsgrove Spring Hunter Pace and Trail Ride on Saturday. The rain date will be on Saturday, June 2.
