Tryon Fine Arts Center will presents a concert tribute to Tryon native and artist and activist Nina Simone on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m.
“Nina Now,” an original production from Destiny Stone, celebrates Nina Simone as a Grammy nominee, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, singer, songwriter, pianist, and voice of the civil rights movement.
“Nina Now” is a show on a mission to keep the name of Nina Simone ringing with 10 of Simone’s songs, six of Destiny’s original works, and an artist-audience talk back. The show embodies what it means to be a woman, artist, and activist, organizers said.
The performance will be staged in the backstage space of the Veh Stage, with the audience seated onstage with the Destiny Stone and TFAC’s 9 foot Steinway Concert D piano.
The Stage Door Series is TFAC’s newest series, giving patrons a unique perspective on concerts, theater, spoken word events and more organizers said. Seating is limited. Reservations are strongly encouraged at tryonarts.org or by calling 828-859-8322.
