Wolverine seniors shine in 12-4 win over Madison

Polk County honored its senior baseball players before Friday’s game with Madison.
The seniors showed their thanks throughout the rest of the night.
Holden Owens homered and drove in four runs, and Tyler Harris struck out 11 in six innings as the Wolverines rolled to a 12-4 victory in Western Highlands Conference action at The Bottoms.
Polk County improved to 18-2, 14-0 and will close out the regular season next week with games at Madison and Rosman.
Owens slammed his seventh homer of the season in the bottom of the first and finished 2-for-4. Harris had two hits and drove in a run while scattering four hits and allowing three runs in earning the win.
Madison grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the second, but the Wolverines answered with six runs in the bottom of the game to take command. Five of those runs came with two outs, with Owens driving in three with a bases-loaded double. Sedric Pickett added a run-scoring single to make it 7-3.
Nick Capozzi singled home a run in the third to make it 8-3, and Elijah Sutton added a run-scoring single in the fourth to make it 9-3. The Wolverines then scored three runs in the fifth, with Harris closing the scoring with an RBI double.
Pickett finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Capozzi drove in a pair of runs for Polk.
